PocketBike “Electric” DIY Stil Wont Pull Me Around, 18volt from 6 drill batteries
spins good & it’ll pull me around if I chainge the pully ratio but being a “Top end” man I’d like to just up the amprage, I at this point don’t think it’s the voltage becouse after this I added 12 volts more from 6 12Volt batteries & it spins like crazy but still wont drag me around, at 30 volts + 1 12volt motorcycle battery to work the coil & that says 12volt 50% what the hell does that mean? compare this 18Volt spin with the 30volt spin, I’m getting there! this is the 18 Volt Spin!

stop “shooting in the dark”, wiring this motor up – #1 drill batteries aren’t going to cut it, on a large motor like that you can drop 200Amps @48v just on the initial takeoff – those batteries have too much internal resistance to pull that off, and if you’re not careful, they’ll just pop, next you’re conductor should be about as big as your pinky, if not your thumb, lastly, without proper current limiting, you’ll ruin whatever batteries you have you’ll need a power controller in this thing
a little more…. no controller will tear up your brushes, and your throttle switch, controllers are VERY expensive. If you just want to run it, and all you can do is the all or nothing switch, then try to closely match its running voltage, this reduces current draw (if its rated for 12/24/48 .. 120 (looked like a treadmill motor to me) ) add enough batteries to get to that voltage, even if they are “smaller” – but they need to be lead-acid or lithium polymer.
thanks it’s a 12 volt motor & yah the drill batteries have been not very good, so I’m making a side car for some 6volt deep cell golfcart batteries but I’d like to know about the current limiting if you know about thins stuff, 2 of the 6volt deep cells pulled me around on the Rupp I mounted this motor to but the weight was unreal the motor is 40 pounds, I want to try 4 6volts with a 12v/24v switch but all 4 = 12volts with more amps would probably be good, any advice would be helpful,
